I came across this beautiful picture of the Sacred Valley in Peru. I've been there twice and always remember the clean crisp air because of the altitude that seemed to make colors so much more vivid !

Princessa Inca ~ Vogue Mexico

 This beautiful spread of photographs is from Vogue Mexico of August 2011. It's titled Inca Princess and was photographed in Cusco Peru by photographer Michael Filonow featuring model Tiiu Kuik. I wanted to share this because I just returned from a trip to Peru where we stayed 10 days in Cusco and fell in love with the vivid colors and amazing scenery. I will be posting soon some of our pictures and experiences. Below is a the intro paragraph from Vogue Mexico in Spanish.

Trail Blazers ~ high fashion in the Andes

Here are some beautiful pictures taken by famous Peruvian fashion photographer Mario Testino. The photo shoot titled Trail Blazers was done in Cuzco Peru for 2008 UK Vogue.  These pics caught my eye since my husband and I will soon be heading to Cuzco ourselves. I especially like them because it's not your typical Inca princess theme or high fashion peasant girl (cholita) instead it's high fashion trekker girl !  My inspiration for this trip is the trekker girl part, a little style wouldn't hurt either  : )

Papas Andinas ~ Parque de las Papas

 

I want to share an interesting article that I came across on the Gourmet website "Peru's potato park ~ an eco-preserve that is a living monument to the descendents of the Incan empire—and their most prized food." The Andes is the birth place of the potato which makes it fitting that six Quechua communities came together in Peru to form the Potato Park.

" The qhachun waguchi is one of 200 varieties on display in the visitors’ center at Peru’s Parque de la Papa, a relatively new and little-known attraction near Cusco. The 22,000-acre potato preserve grows more than 1,300 varieties."

The Potato Park offers multiple tours a one-day driving tour, a three- and five-day trekking tours and a one-day cooking class. The park’s English website offers more details. What is a visit to the park like? Visit the Living in Peru site to find out.

Peruvian Connection packaging

In 2010 the Peruvian Connection clothing company was honored by ID Magazine in their Annual Design Review with a design distinction award for their retail packaging. The beautiful designs were a

blend of 1934 Peruvian portrait photos by Martin Chambi, floral patterning from a Peruvian Connection fabric, and antique etchings.  The rich warm and deep colors can be seen in the photos above and below of the different size shopping bags and clothing hangtags.

The exceptional photographs that were used are from Martin Chambi bringing to light a very important but little known figure in photography. Martin Chambi was born in 1891 in Puno, Peru.  He was one of the first well known indigenous Latin American photographer of his time.  It has been said that " His life and accomplishments represent a unique combination of historical, cultural and aesthetic considerations that are of unusual significance in regard to the history of photography in Latin America."
